The Project

A Park Slope Bathroom Built Around a Statement Tub and Double Vanity

The finished room combines a generous bathing area with useful two-person storage. A crisp rectangular tub anchors one side of the bathroom, while a black double vanity with a pale stone top gives the opposite side strong visual weight. Brass faucets, cabinet pulls, and slender metal legs add warmth without turning the room into a single-metal finish scheme.

Large warm-gray porcelain tiles continue from the floor up the lower walls, reducing visual breaks and providing a durable surface around the tub. Above them, narrow deep-blue textured tiles wrap the room and introduce color at eye level. A ceiling-mounted oval curtain track keeps the tub usable as a shower without placing a bulky frame on its clean edge.

Why the Material Transitions Work

The room uses contrast in measured layers. Warm-gray porcelain provides a quiet, practical base; the textured blue tile begins at a consistent horizontal line; and the black vanity creates a darker focal point. Brass fittings then connect the vanity to the rest of the room without requiring every piece of hardware to match exactly. Planning the tile break, outlet positions, faucet drilling, and vanity height together prevents small misalignments from disrupting the composition.

A freestanding tub also requires more coordination than its simple shape suggests. The team must verify the filler location, service access, clearances, drainage, waterproofed surroundings, and how the shower curtain contains water. In older Park Slope properties, wall and floor conditions may only become fully visible after demolition, so the written scope should explain how concealed repairs and change authorization will be handled.
